From Point Tools to AI-Native Law Firms

Beyond Harvey

"Instead of selling to the dinosaurs, you could make them extinct." — Jared Friedman

Since 2024, 79% of funding has flowed into AI-first legal startups, spanning copilots (Legora, $550M) to emerging full-stack players like Lawhive ($60M).

However, most startups are only selling AI agents to law firms, augmenting lawyers through contract automation and research. Per YC, the bolder move is to skip the law firm entirely, build full-stack AI-native law firms staffed with agents, and compete directly.

Harvey may own the tool layer today, but the AI-native firm layer is still up for grabs.
